NEW PLAYLIST UPDATE: http://spoti.fi/QLrE2c

This weeks playlist comes from London based producer Johan Hugo. I am currently with him in Africa, relatively deep in the desert outside of Senegal's capital Dakar about to play one of two shows with his band The Very Best. I should do some explaining... The Very Best are a collaboration between London based DJ/production duo Radioclit and Esau Mwamwaya, a singer from Lilongwe, Malawi. They make music I will describe as modern - fusing elements of pop, hip hop, Afro beat with traditional Malawian influence. We are here predominately to play a festival called Blues de Fleuve which is held each year 300 miles out of the city and is visited by some of the best musicians in Africa. Joining us will be the great Senegalese singer and guitarist Baaba Maal.

Thank you to Winston Marshall, The Very Best, Baaba Maal and everyone here who has made this weekend possible. I will be posting pictures on the bands instagram if you want to see first hand what we are up to:http://instagram.com/thevaccines

Enjoy the playlist, it's a good un.

This week's Spotify playlist addition comes from super producer Paul White. His EP, Watch The Ants, was on repeat in our dressing room for the last couple of weeks of touring, so we figured we'd get him to add some of his inspirations on to our dressing room playlist: http://spoti.fi/QLrE2c

In The Dressing Room Spotify Playlist - Lou Reed Special

http://spoti.fi/QLrE2c

Dennis and Lois are legendary music fans - they met in CBGB's in the late 1970's and after seeing The Ramones they returned every night - regularly seeing Talking Heads, Patti Smith and Television (to name a few) perform. They became close friends and toured with The Ramones who are one of many bands they touched with their kindness and enthusiasm. There is a Happy Mondays song in their namesake, they are close to the hearts of Badly Drawn Boy, The Doves, the late Frank Sidebottom and the NME used to feature a comic of their touring adventures on its back page. We met 'DenLo' at our second ever American show and they have followed us on many tours since, not to mention surprising us in Manchester when they appeared backstage at Heaton Park for our show with The Stone Roses. Most importantly Dennis and Lois are inspiring devoted people and they are like a second family when we are in America.. As New Yorkers I thought they could provide this Friday's playlist in honour of the great Lou Reed who sadly passed away last week.

From Dennis and Lois...

"With a catalog of 45 or so years picking 6 is tough so we listed our favorites that we feel capture Lou, not over familar favorites. Our other favorites include all of Metal Machine Music (in small doses!), Satellite of Love, Pale Blue Eyes, Coney Island Baby, Ocean, etc, etc, etc.

"Lou's NYC apt. was right near Lois' old job. I use to see Lou on the street often. Never struck up a conversation. Too much respect! Always managed a "hello Mr. Reed" and he always responded. We live a couple of mins. from where he grew up and we still pass his old house and high school almost every day.

Love
DenLo.
